This 26th January India will be celebrating its 63rd Republic Day.

With the Republic Day enthusiasm all around us, we went back to our Civics classes from school which reminded us that the date was deliberately chosen to honour the memory of the Declaration of Independence – Purna Swaraj of 1930.

The Constitution was passed on 26th November 1949 and signed on 24th January 1950 but declared officially on the 26th of January.

Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India signing the Constitution of India in 1950, who also hoisted the flag for the Declaration of Independence in Lahore in 1929.

Zaheer Khan Invests In Exclusively.in’s Apparel Brand – Sher Singh

Cricketer Zaheer Khan has invested in a Exclusively.in Inc’s newly launched label – Sher Singh. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. He will also be the brand ambassador of Sher Singh.

Sher Singh range of lifestyle products for men and women include T-shirts, trousers, polos, shirts, dresses, saris and tunics with a focus on markets like India, the US and the UK. Exclusively is targetting sales of about $100Mn from the brand in the next two years.

Exclusively.in is an online private sales site selling Indian fashion, jewellery and home decor products. It was launched in June’10 by Sunjay Guleria. The portal features high-end traditional Indian apparel as well as scarves, jewelry, handbags, crafts, paintings, photography and other home goods made by Indian designers.

The company had recently launched a wedding boutique on its website, offering wedding attire sales from Indian designers such as Manish Malhotra, Tarun Tahiliani, Manish Arora, Ritu Kumar and Payal Singhal. It had also set-up an Indian fashion pop-up store in Manhattan (NY), for a flash sale.

In May this year, it raised $16 Mn in a Series-B funding round led by Tiger Global Management, with participation from existing investors, Accel Partners India and Helion Venture Partners. Before that it raised $2.8 Mn from Accel Partners and Helion Venture Partners in November 2010.

In the beginning, they resemble replicas of polo Ralph Lauren T-shirts which Delhites love sport, but a closer examination shows the difference.

Promises to be a treat for followers of fashion and the feel of more recent design of the India, the lifestyle brand Sher Singh launched its first collection of tees, pants, the polos, shirts, saris and tunics. The contemporary range of clothing for men and women is sold to the retail site.

If Bollywood stars such as Dia Mirza and Neha Dhupia have ventured into different companies outside their career, it is the Indian sports frat take the same route. Cricket Zaheer Khan, with the Ambassador of the brand, is also part owner of the company. He also participated in conceptualizing the “cricket” brand clothing line.

This is not the first time, a player of cricket has been associated with fashion. Cosmo Singh and Harbhajan Singh travelled the ramp as Virat Kohli barriers and Gautam Gambhir are the face of labels of fashion as Fastrack and Beverly Hills Polo Club, among others.

Most of the clothing of this varied collection of Rs 499-1 999; including their polo of the India of the team and the elegant Nehru collar shirts. The sports T-shirt collection is designed for fun and vibrant hues ranging from deep blue to red to pale pink salmon with Sher Singh eccentric logo printed on them.

With the India becoming a hot spot of fashion on the map of the world, Sher Singh promises to present an elegant Indian brand for the global public.

Cricket, all the way
The company unveiled its first collection, Cricket by Sher Singh, today with Zaheer Khan, who also announced that he is one of the investors in the company.  The team is also backed by other venture capitalists such as Tiger Global Management and Accel Partners, Rajan Anandan (MD, Google India), Sushama Reddy and Kishore Lulla (chairman, Eros Entertainment).

Speaking on the launch, cricketer Zaheer Khan said, “I am excited to be a part of Sher Singh. The brand symbolises stylish contemporary clothing, and I personally love the fit, quality, designs and fabric.

The brand and team is excellent, and I invested personally as I felt compelled by the mission of making Sher Singh the world’s first lifestyle brand from India.”

Most of the clothing from this collection ranges from Rs 499-1,999; including their Team India polo and the stylish Nehru collared polos. The sporty T-shirt collection is designed in fun and vibrant hues ranging from deep blue to vibrant red to pale pinks with the quirky Sher Singh logo printed on them.

With India emerging as a hot spot for fashion on the global map, Sher Singh promises to present a stylish Indian brand to the global audiences.

Zaheer Khan invests in ‘Sher Singh’

New Delhi, Friday, Nov 11, 2011: Indian cricket star Zaheer Khan has become an investor in a new brand ‘Sher Singh’ launched by online retailer of apparel and fashion accessories Exclusively.in Inc. The bowler will also be the brand ambassador for the newly launched label that is eyeing USD 100 million (about Rs 500 crore) turnover globally in the next two years.

From the brand Sher Singh we are targetting sales of about USD 100 million in the next two years and for the group overall that includes business from Exclusively.in we are aiming for USD 200 million turnover in the next three years,” Exclusively.in Inc CEO and Co-Founder Sunjay Guleria said.

He, however, declined to share Khan’s investments.

When asked about it, Khan said: “(I own) Enough to be excited about.

The company today unveiled its first collection under the new label, Cricket by Sher Singh — for men and women and is focusing on markets like India, the US and the UK.

The Sher Singh range of lifestyle products for men and women include T-shirts, trousers, polos, shirts, dresses, saris and tunics.

About 60 per cent of the expected turnover is likely to come from India and remaining from other global markets,” Guleria said.

Going ahead, the firm is considering strategic partnerships with celebrities in the field of sports, music and films for brand promotion, like Khan.

Exclusively.in Inc has offices in New York City and New Delhi and has so far received funding of USD 20 million from a host of investors, including Accel Partners, Tiger Global Management and Helion Venture Partners.

The company is also supported by a number of investors and advisors including, Google India MD Rajan Anandan, Eros Entertainment Chairman Kishore Lulla and model and actress Sushma Reddy.

When asked if the company is looking for additional funds for expansion, Guleria said: “We are not looking for another funding round for the next two years.

He, however, did not share the company’s current sales.
