Ways to Wear: The Henley

Remove the collars. Add three to four buttons to the placket and you have your Henley. There’s nothing like an easy ready-to-go look this shirt can give you this Summer.

  1. Wear your Henley with your old pair of denims for an everyday style.
  2. The unbuttoned look is sexy and stylish. Wear a tee underneath for a subtle layered accent.
  3. Another great thing about the Henley is that it looks good on its own and it looks really cool with a blazer too.
  4. Ecru/white chinos and your Henley are just the perfect couple.
  5. Throw a cardigan over and your Henley becomes your new evening style.

Chet Baker & The White Tee

For a man, nothing is easier than wearing a plain white tee. Yet, it is an absolute essential. Timeless, the t-shirt gives an effortless style when worn casually or under a formal blazer.

One of the first to make this basic wear into one of the most stylish outfits is perhaps Chet Baker. Often called the ‘James Dean of the Jazz World’, the trumpeter and singer was most often photographed in his iconic white t-shirt in the 1950’s.

With his ‘matinee idol’ looks and great hair, his callous minimalist style gave him an easy, natural elegance. And although his restrained, sensuous music might be an acquired taste, most would ‘…fall in love too easily’ with the man.

From the Trench to the Wardrobe

1. Humphrey Bogart, Casablanca 2. Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau

Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca, Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Inspector Clouseau from the Pink Panther series have all looked the part thanks to their trench coats.

First worn by the soldiers in the First World War, they have come a long way to become essential and aesthetic items in today’s wardrobe. And even though they still may not be very popular in India, Manou, of the ‘wearabout’ blog, photographs them strolling surprisingly on the streets of Mumbai.

Photographed by Manou: 1. Manish Malhotra 2. Neha Dhupia 3. Karan Berry

Christopher Bailey of Burberry has curated the photographs for the exhibition, ‘The Art of the Trench’ taking place at the Oberoi, Gurgaon from the 3rd to the 12th of February, 2012.

Whether or not, the exhibition ushers the average Indian to wear the coat is an unfinished story. However, Manou’s photographs might serve as a hint to the future of the trench in India.

How Do I Look?

Won’t you let me try on those
Black thick-rimmed glasses?
Oh I’ve spotted them this whole night.”

I heard this song by Aubrey Wood the other day and it really got me thinking. Could those frames still be in fashion? Or is this secretly an ode to her professor?

She goes on to sing, it’s the ‘artistic type’ who wears them. Well, I know that when worn with a casual nonchalance the nerd becomes the most fashionable man. And it seems the most fashionable men are becoming nerds. So it becomes a really confusing affair. Justin Timberlake, Ashton Kutcher, Johnny Depp, Ranbir Kapoor – they all seem to be trying the ‘look’.

So, are those black thick-rimmed glasses truly so fashionable? Or is the once bullied nerd with poor eyesight the hottest dude in town? I wonder what Aubrey has to say.
